Catch on Fire!
Wish somebody’s soul would catch on fire!
I’ve had that song in my heart for a few days.
This morning as I struggled to get the fire going, I was reminded of the song.
I know how to start a fire and had all the right things needed, but sometimes
it’s hard and I needed to get just the right combo of kindling and wood, with
flame and air… and whoosh it took right off.
The air is the Holy Ghost, the kindling is the
word, and the flame is my heart, and what God wants to do across the globe.
Sometimes there’s a back draft or resistance in
the building of the fire. Sometimes it ends up just being smoke that really
doesn’t do much, except stink up the house. But when we are persistent in
fanning the flame and push through the smoke, soon there’s a roaring fire.
We are seeing that in real life. Once the wood
catches on fire and all the components are in place, we have FIRE. Warmth and
glow across the wood burner and soon the entire house is warmed and filled with
the heat.
The heat and fire of His glory!
For two days I’ve struggled with getting a fire
going. Did we really need it? I could just let the furnace kick on and be warm
that way.
But there’s something about a fire. The fire that
is beyond warmth, but intriguing and interesting to watch. As the flames dance
across the wood and create the glow and catch the entire pile of logs on fire,
I am reminded that’s what God wants- to catch us all on fire and spread
throughout the land.
Fire is no respecter of persons. It consumes what
is in its path. I can either stack the logs a certain way to create a roaring
flaming fire, or I can haphazardly put them along the edges of the stove and
“hope” they catch the flame.
The choice is ours. Do you jump in the flames or stay on the
fringes and just catch the smoke and an occasional ember??
Even though the embers are hot and glowing, I
cannot get a full-blown fire without the other pieces of wood catching some of
that same fire. Together they make a roaring fire that spreads out to the
entire stack of wood. I add pieces to keep it going throughout the day and
night as needed.
Sometimes someone comes in and wants to fix it or
get it going. And they can’t. Not that they can’t start a fire… but they CAN'T
fix or start MY fire. I have to start my own fire and then they can add to it,
putting logs on and stirring it as needed. But I have to decide to what degree
I want the flame to grow before I allow others to step in and adjust the air
flow and flame for the fire to catch on.
This isn’t one of those flip the switch fires. This one takes
work and preparation.
From felling trees to splitting and chopping wood,
to stacking, to hauling it in the house. The kindling matters. The type of wood
matters. The fact that it was seasoned and prepared to burn matters. How we
start the flame and fire matters.
Much like I think this last outpouring will be.
From how much time and effort we’ve put in, in the preparation. God is looking for wood that is seasoned and ready
to be used.
People who are willing to catch on fire for him.
No matter the look or cost.
Someone that will stick with it, no matter what it
takes. From the laboring of gathering and preparing for the fire, to the
waiting minutes or hours for the fire to take
off and burn. In our fast-paced world, we don’t grasp things taking time or a
hot minute to take off. We want it now. When in reality God wants us to slow
burn occasionally and wait for just the right moment for the fire to roar to
life. Are we willing to linger in the embers as the fire begins to roar around
us, beckoning us to catch on fire?!
Our God is an all consuming fire. Hebrews 12:29
The moment is NOW for someone's soul to Catch on Fire.

I really enjoyed this article
ReplyDeleteIt is very relatable and brings me back to the word of God to be more honest about my fire and what I need to work on.
